THE LAND
Alghero is absolutely not only “sea”. Actually the countryside around Alghero distinguishes itself in plenty of rich soil and in the large number of small producers, scattered all over the various neighbouring rural areas, who daily deliver their fruit and their vegetables to the fruit and vegetable market of the town, proudly displaying the result of their hard work in the fields personally. The predominant tradition in the agricultural and food production of Alghero is likewise put forth with remarkable success by the great number of olive growers. The oil of Alghero actually represents a good slice of that insular production which, together with that of other elite regions in the olive oil industry, constitutes the jewel in the crown in such an important field of “Made in Italy”. The wine production is another “area” in which the territory of Alghero has been worldwide recognized for its merits. No less than two of the most prestigious wine growers and producers of the island, both in terms of quantity and above all of quality of the wine produced, are situated in the territory of our town. At last we should not forget that even if the sheep-breeding does not represent a particularly important field of the town economics, there is however a good tradition of it. Knowing how to search in the “right” places in the town it is however always possible to draw on that enormous patrimony typical of Sardinia which is its dairy production.
